Congrats on Surviving Another Year

Hi everyone - it's Jen from Caffeinated Papercuts with a fun watercolor card for you. I'm still hung up on these ridiculously adorable dinosaur stamps released this month, but I wanted a card that could be used for someone above the age of 12 if you wished...so welcome to my 'grown up' dinosaur card!

So I have to tell you, as I was making this my son came in to see what I was up to.
"Mommy, are you making flowers?"
"Nope, look again kiddo."
He watched for a few minutes as I was still painting, and then it hit him - "DINOSAUR TRACKS! Dad, Dad, look what Mommy's making!!"
Oh yeah, I was the bomb-diggity this morning...just saying...LOL

Speaking of painting, let's talk about how I put this together!

  • I started with a piece of Ranger watercolor paper (because it's pre-cut and I'm lazy), coated it with some anti-static powder, positioned my 'Congratulations' stamp where I wanted it and inked up the Dino Feet with VersaMark ink. I laid the sentiment stamp out so I could see where the dino feet should not go.
  • After I had my feet stamped, I removed the sentiment stamp and heat embossed the prints with my favorite Hero Arts white embossing powder. I also managed to spill half the container on my desk - don't do that. It's quite messy and looks like a dinosaur stomped across your work surface.
  • Time to add some color! I didn't want the entire piece colored, so I used some Post-it tape to create a border, then wet the watercolor paper with clean water to get it ready. I smooshed out three colors of Distress Inks onto my craft mat for my palette and simply started dropping on color. When I was happy with it, I dried the whole piece with my heat gun.

Of course, because it's Distress Inks, I HAD to add in some water droplets before trimming down the panel slightly and stamping my sentiment with VersaFine black ink.

I trimmed down some Fun Foam and used that to mount my panel to the card base. We all know how much I love my foam tape, but for keeping an entire card front like this stable, a solid piece of foam is the way to go. A couple of 4mm clear sequins and the card front was done.

Yes, I said 'front'...wait for it...I STAMPED THE INSIDE! I know, crazy, right?? But this other sentiment released this month just had to be used...

Hehehehehehehehehe, I love it! You could use this for an anniversary, birthday, end of the year teacher card, beginning of summer card for the kiddos - the sky is the limit!

There's still time to enter our June Challenge - Congratulations. If I was eligible, I would soooo be entering this for a chance at that $25 gift card to the shop!

Don't forget that So Suzy Stamps can be found on Instagram, Facebook,Pinterest, Twitter and now on NING and Flickr! You should join us there to find more inspiration and fun...soooo much fun! Happy Crafting!
