Winter's Butterflies

Christmas in July is fast approaching and that means I am busting my butt to get everything ready for our annual Card Retreat.  We have 26 fabulous ladies coming in from all over the country to spend a weekend in Northern New Mexico making Christmas cards!

After the Retreat, we will be posting pictures of all of the festivities and goodies that were given away, but right now let's move onto one of the cards we are going to be making.

I absolutely LOVE the sentiment with this butterfly!  They go fabulous together and the way the butterfly is designed almost makes it appear as if it to is a snowflake!

Making the Card - Supply List Posted Below

  • The card base is 5" x 10"
  • I made the Black layer for the inside and outside at 4.5" x 4.5" since I wanted more of the Island Breeze showing
  • The white is at 4.25" x 4.25"
  • Before I did anything with the paper, I placed the White layer in my MISTI and lined up my Winter's Butterflies stamp (it is currently out of stock, but will be in next week)
  • I wanted to make sure the sentiment was super black and the MISTI allowed me to stamp repeatedly over the sentiment until I had it as dark as I wanted it to be.
  • Once I was happy with my sentiment, I ran the white paper through my Big Shot using the Snowflake Swirl embossing folder making sure that the sentiment was not affected by the snowflakes
  • I then used my Embossing Buddy and covered a piece of acetate to make sure no little glitter flitters would get in the way of the intricate design of the Butterfly
  • I stamped the Butterfly onto the acetate using Versa Mark and sprinkled it using Zing Blue Embossing Glitter...holy cow, this stuff is the COOLEST!  (For those of you coming to the Retreat, I do carry it in the shop...in different colors too!  Woo hoo!)
  • After I sprinkled, I heated the butterfly until the glitter melted...DO NOT TOUCH TO SEE IF IT DRY!  Just let it sit and melt.
  • Once it was all dry, I fussy cut the butterfly out of the acetate. You do not need to worry if it is perfect since it is clear and no one will notice any "oops"
  • I used a couple of Glue Dots to adhere the Butterfly to the White layer
  • I then taped my white paper to the black
  • I wanted the black paper to pop off the card so I did place foam tape on the back before adhering it to the front of the card
  • Once it was all finished, I went back in with some rhinestones and placed them in the corner and then outlined some of the snowflake embossed swirls with Silver Stickles.  This added just the right amount of pop that I wanted.
The fabulous part of this design is you can switch out the colors, turn it into a fun birthday card, possibly even a pretty card with a "gotcha" snarky sentiment on the inside!  He he he he

Supply List

Just as a little reminder, our website will be down during the Retreat to ensure we do not have issues with out of stock and back ordered items.
