Welcome to Day 29 of Misti May-Nia! If you haven't heard, Iliana is giving away a Mini MISTI every day the entire month of May. All you have to do is comment on our blog and we will select one winner to be the lucky recipient of a Mini MISTI. Since the MISTI is fast becoming the BFF of crafters everywhere, what do you say you leave a special memory of YOUR best friend in the comment field.
The winner will be announced on June 1st so be sure and check back to see if your name was selected! You can also see the list of winners, blogs that are participating and fabulous cards from Iliana on her blog.
Last year, Iliana decided the MISTI needed another friend to keep her company while she busted out card after card. After a phone call full of silliness, we plotted rubber, foam, cling, thickness and other craziness. We sent her over a couple different chunks of rubber to test out with the MISTI and after a few attempts, she finalized the Mirror Image Stamp!
Like traditional reverse image stamps, it will allow you to get the "opposite" or mirror image of a particular stamp, only this one works with your MISTI! Justine has been doing a week long series on the MISTI and she has a great tutorial video up on how to use the Mirror Image Stamp with the MISTI so be sure and check it out.
In the meantime, I had a fabulous time playing with the Mirror Image Stamp AND some new stamps that are coming out on June 1st! Shhhhh, it's a sneak peek and the Design Team doesn't know I am about to let the cat out of the bag, but I just couldn't help myself!
- I started by stamping the Blowing Butterflies (in stock June 1st) onto the top side of the paper with Versa Mark.
- I then embossed it with black embossing powder
- I didn't want the leaves and the black embossing powder affecting the white so I went ahead and randomly stamped the leaves onto the paper and embossed them as well.
- Now comes the fun part with the Mirror Image Stamp!
![]() |
Mirror Image Stamp |
1. Place the Mirror Image Stamp at the TOP of the MISTI - DO NOT TOUCH YOUR STAMP - leave it right where it is.
2. Ink the stamp with Versa Mark and stamp it onto the rubber. If your Versa Mark is juicy, you only need to do this once.
![]() |
Check out the Versa Mark on the rubber (I only did it the one time) |
3. Place your paper on top of the Mirror Image Stamp. In this case, I wanted the opposite end of my paper so when I pull the paper off and emboss it, my Blowing Butterflies will be in the EXACT opposite space from the black butterflies.
4. I then just took my fingers and gently rubbed the paper over the stamped image. The best part is if you are working with ink and it didn't get on the paper, you can just huff on your rubber and place the paper right back down. The MISTI allows you to line it up perfectly! (YEAH!)
Pretty snappy, huh? It's so much easier than I first anticipated and you can do it with anything! Reflections, kissing critters, so much fun!
- Now that I had my white side embossed with the butterflies and the leaves, I was ready to move onto the fun part!
- I wanted to give the illusion of the moon for both sides of my card so I took the negative circle from Jo's Bubbles Clarity Stencil and placed it down using my Post-It Tape.
- I also masked off the black side from the white side with the Post-It Tape so I didn't accidentally get purple ink into the pink section.
- I used Plum Passion, Lucky Lavender, Lilac Love and Thistle Thicket Ink Bites with my Clarity Brush to brush on the color. The best part about the brushes is I only used the one brush I have designated for Purple. Talk about FABULOUS and FAST!
![]() |
Check out that color!!!! |
- I removed the circle mask for the moon and then randomly brushed on some Thistle Thicket and Lilac Love. I didn't want it dark in color, but I didn't want to leave it plain white.
- I wanted to add a few little "stars" to my card so I added some white accents with my white Sakura Gelly Roll pen
I then removed the Post It Tape for the Mask line and voila! I was finished with the purple side!
- I repeated the whole process from above onto the white side.
- I used Petunia Pink, Wild Watermelon, Soft Sorbet and Bumblebee Breeze for my colors.
- Since I was using pinks and yellows for this side, I did use two brushes.
Ta Da! Originally I thought of just leaving it as it was, but I wanted a bit of sparkle in-between the two sides. Salima has been on a glitter frenzy and I thought to myself, why the heck not! I can totally add glitter to this bad boy!
- I added a line of 1/8" double sided tape between the two sides
- I removed the top protective layer from the tape
- Added some Nuvo Pure Sheen Glitter in Silver to the top of the sticky tape
- And I had instant sparkle!
- I totally wasn't finished with the glitter at this point!
- I thought about doing some glitter paper behind this layer, but I hate fighting with glue dots to make it stick so I broke out the 10mm Sticky Tape and made my own glitter paper!
- I added strips around all four sides of the paper
- Dumped on the glitter
- Burnished it with my finger
- Instant Glitter paper!
- I taped the front panel to my faux glitter paper and I was ready for the sentiment!
- As much as I love this sentiment the way it is, I wanted to split them up for the card. (Sentiment will be out on June 1st)
- I placed my sentiment in the MISTI with my Vellum
...and the purple!
I mounted the card to a black card and it is all finished!
As much as I loved making this card, it also reminds me that I have some friends I need to call to tell them how important they are to me.
Thank you so much for following along today. I know it's a super long post, but I don't blog often so I figured this is a compilation of all of the blogging I HAVEN'T done! =)
Don't forget to leave a comment below for your chance to win a Mini MISTI!!!!
Until next time,
Happy Stamping!

So beautiful! My best bud and I probably drank a bit too much one night, just a home, and I remember laughing and laughing so much our sides hurt. Never had that much fun!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, and had never heard of the mirror image stamp, but now I need one of those along with the MISTI.

ReplyDeleteMy best friend happens to be a guy who is not gay and not into me. Very rare. The day before my wedding, we had way to much to drink ended up on my sister's bed as he was sleeping over and literally fell asleep next to him after talking all night drunk. Should have seen the shocked face of my aunty when she came to wake him up.
ReplyDeleteI love the purple ink pad! Gorgeous! Would love to be lucky enough to win a misti
ReplyDeletefabulous and very educational blog. My BFF lives on another continent so we don't see each other as often as we would like, but when we do it is as if it was only yesterday and we just spend our time reminiscing and catching up, cos we never know how long till we see each other again
ReplyDeleteA really beautiful card. Love the sentiment and colors you used. Thank you for sharing and being part of the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these techniques, very cool. I will be sharing them with my best bud!
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial on mirror stamping! I would love a mini Misti! My great BFF memory... I love remembering walking to school in the third grade with my BFF, holding hands and talking and giggling the whole way.
ReplyDeleteMy best memory is meeting Sarah for the first time in real life and not just talking on-line!. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! One very recent experience with my best bud will become a fond memory. Just last weekend we were headed to a paper crafting show and sale. My car started wobbling a little left, then a little right while driving on the New York State Thruway and then the check tire pressure light came on. We couldn't see anything wrong with the tires, but ended up having a tow truck come out. It turns out that there was nothing wrong with my car - but it was a section of "experimental" pavement. Fail! We ended up continuing on to the show and had no further problems once we got past that section of pavement. This one will go down as a memory for sure.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and I love that you can reverse stamp with the Misti. How cool is that! Thanks for sharing and can't wait to see the June release.
ReplyDeleteThese cards are perfect & gorgeous! I love everything about them especially the mirror imaging! So my favorite memory is with parents (they are senior citizens)...and they love babies and children. So when we are out and about every child we see we have to go up and share a dollar and a hug. They adore children and have to touch with parents permission of course. Best memories ever...we get to meet alot of interesting and sweet people. Thanks for sharing your creativity! Simply beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteMy BFF moved across the country when we were about 7 or 8 years old. Now nearly 30 years later, we're still on the phone regularly, sending cards and letters and birthday gifts, and currently planning our next visits. We're 800 km apart, but somehow we always end up having very similar experiences - and lots to talk about :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your mirror image. I have made a couple of cards using the mirror image and it has not been easy. I like your idea of using the Misti as that could make it so much easier. Thanks for the tutorial and the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteVery cool technique. thanks for the chance to win a misti!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards. The Misti is an incredible tool. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! My bff Lena and I always go on scrapbook retreats which turn more into antiquing than scrapping. One time she bought a table and we couldn't get it into the car and had to call her hubby to come pick it up...thankfully we were close to home lol
ReplyDeleteAh, BFF would be Jolynda! Fun - feisty - fabulous! What else could you want in a friend 😉

... and for the reminder to reach out to our precious friends and family. Last year I had the pleasure of reconnecting with a BFF from school. We drifted apart when she married & moved away and I came down to study in the city ... over 20 years later it was like we had seen each other just the week before - WOW!!!
A beautifully expressed card ... and a fantastic technique ... what a brilliant use for the MISTI! I always took 'adventures' with my BFF when we were small ... indoors or out, they were always adventures! Anita :)

ReplyDeletefrom one Suzy to another.....awesome card. LOVE it. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the opportunity to participate in the misti contest. Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteAwesome card and technique! My best friend growing up is my best friend to this day: my younger sister. We essentially did everything together. Whether it was putting on a "magic" show or playing pranks on our older siblings, I knew we would be at each other's side. College and careers took us to very different parts of the country. After almost a decade of living in different cities, she has moved from Philly to Virginia to live down the street from me!
ReplyDelete--Amy
Absolutely beautiful card. Thanks for sharing how you made it. I would so love to win a MISTI. Hmm best friend? The one who accepts me as I am.

ReplyDeleteHo awesome is that???! There are so many times that I wish I had a mirror image of something...especially swirls (design elements)and birds! Thanks for the tutorial! The Mini Misti looks like the perfect tool!
ReplyDeleteBecause I am frugal I made my own Misti, laughingly called a "Linti", but would love to win the real thing.
ReplyDeleteLovely card and technique. My best friend is my husband. Best memory together was the day we promise to love, honor, and cherish each other till death do us part.

ReplyDeleteMy best friend, Pat, died three years ago, but not a day goes by that I don't think of her. I have so many wonderful memories, from travel to many foreign countries to just shopping or eating out. Your beautiful card meant a lot to me.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! My bff is a young lady that I have known for a very short time ( 3 years) but immediately we clicked! We are inseparable! I feel like she's my sister. We have so much in common! I don't know where I would be without her in my life right now!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely sentiment! This card would bring comfort when most needed. My relationship with my best friend is one of those where we might not talk for months but then we will spend two hours catching up on the phone. ReplyDeleteThat's such a beautiful card and I love the idea of getting mirror images from my stamps. Thrilled that I'll be able to do that with the MISTI. A favorite memory of my BFF is from our vacation in Hawaii last summer. I accidentally flipped her off her paddle board and we all had a big laugh over it.

ReplyDeleteMy best friend and I live thousands of miles away with me moving to the US but am fondly reminded of the sleepovers we had when we were little. It was so much fun!!!. I would absolutely love to win a mini misti, keeping my fingers and toes crossed:-))))
ReplyDeleteYour card is so lovely with the sentiment split onto the two mirror images it really signifies the stages of loss and grief. Very touching. I love all the details you added to make this so special. You introduced me to several new products like the mirror image rubber (definitely on my wish list) and the clarity brushes. I like the idea of having a brush designated for specific colour families. I love the Misti and would absolutely love to win a mini Misti. My best friend lives in Texas and I live in Ontario Canada so we don't see each other often but we have been bff's since high school (I'll just say it's been a lot of years) , and even though we don't get together often, when we do it's like we just saw eachother the day before. One of my favourite memories with my bff was when she graduated nursing school and was applying to the hospitals and we went on a road trip to deliver all the resumes. We had never been to most of the cities so it was a lot of map reading, asking for directions and wrong turns, but we drove and listened to music and talked about dreams and goals and the future and it was such a wonderful experience that she wanted to share that time with me of all people and I will never forget that trip. We have had a lot of other great memories over the years and I know we will have a lot more. I am so thankful for her. Thank you for helping me bring those memories to surface again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful card, thanks for the tutorial.

ReplyDeleteLove that mirror-image technique! The MISTI is amazing!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway, great card (the Mirror Image Stamp really rocks!)... and great sneek peak! :P
ReplyDeleteGiada
Lovely card. I was a very sickly child so there was a lot of things I couldn't do, and lots of time I couldn't even be out of bed for weeks at a time. My sister Louise would sit with me for hours at a time reading to me and if I felt up to it we would play barbie dolls on my bed.She was and still is a wonderful sister and my best friend. PS... She hated dolls.
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a detailed description on how you created these fabulous cards! Very helpful, especially since I'm a very visual person :) Both the MISTI and Mirror Image Stamp look like must haves!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories was in high school with my best friend Dana. We LOVED to go dancing but her mom was very strict and wouldn't let her, so every week, I would drive by her house after her parents were asleep (I had purple lights under my car so she knew it was me), pull around in a nearby business lot then would stop in front of her house with all of my lights off. She would climb out of her window and run to my car, jump in and we would laugh hysterically as we pulled off to go to the club to go dancing :) It was so much fun and a memory I will cherish forever!
Love the mirror image!
ReplyDeleteGreat stamps and a lovely card. Oooo! The ability to do mirror images easily! How exciting! I will have yo try that out. I hope a mini misti is soon in my possession!
ReplyDeleteBlessings

ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely card! I love the mirror images, this is such a unique technique and stamp! I love the step by step tutorial! The instant glitter paper is fabulous, love the way it looks! Thanks for the reminder to check in with my BFF. She had a hysterectomy a few weeks ago and I have been keeping tabs on her but got busy this weekend! Texting her now :) I appreciate the inspiration and look forward to more stamping techniques from your and your DT! Thanks for the chance to win!

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!! What a wonderful Butterfly creation! I love the way you did the opposite sides!
ReplyDeleteLearning that I can do mirror image stamping with the MISTI makes me want one even more! I have tried so many different techniques to get mirror images and failed at each one! Fingers crossed that this will be my lucky day for winning the Mini MISTI! Thanks for the chance to!
My best friend and I have not gotten together for quite a while. I was injured in 2005 and my life changed drastically. Since then I have had numerous health issues that keep my close to home. Even though we are neighbors it is so hard to find a time that I am feeling well and she isn't busy. I really miss her and we have talked about both of us feeling alone since we don't hang out like we used to. Now that Summer is here I plan to invite them for bbq's and cards!
DeleteMy best friend is the one who taught me how to stamp! Becky Cowley! She is AMAZING & I love her!
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror image. I can't wait to try it! The for sharing....

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this technique. One of my best friends always is so sweet to just listen and pray for me. Though I know this weekend she is getting ready for a big upcoming house project. I just texted her to see how she is doing.

My best friend and I met in university and had many good times and road trips in her old yellow Duster. After getting married we lived many miles apart for over 25 years. I am happy to say that we have moved to within 20 minutes of each other after all that time and are enjoying our renewed friendship. Thanks for all the tips and instructions on the mirror image stamping - love it! Thanks to you and Iliana for the chance to win a Misti!
ReplyDeleteAnother fantastic use for the MISTI!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, touching card Suzanne. Love all the details you added.l
ReplyDeleteWow! MISTI is so very helpful. Thanks for the shadow tips. Off to see what other ideas Justine has!
Thanks for the opportunity to win their fabulous prize!
Kindergarten is where I met my best friend. We tied our shoe laces together in class and the teacher sent us down to the principal's office. We never made it, we were laughing so hard. Had to stop in the bathroom.
What a beautiful piece of art. Thank you for inspiring me to create.
ReplyDeleteYour mirror image stamp is a great idea and your beautiful card is the proof! Thanks for participating in this Misti Maynia blog hop!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great tip!
ReplyDeleteI love learning new techniques, and this looks like a technique totally worth trying. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo this is how reverse stamping is done. I had no idea! The Misti would really help with positioning. My best friend's name is Sharon. We get together once a week to do scrapbooking or other arts together. She would rearrange her schedule if I needed her suddenly and I like taking her out to lunch just because I love her!
ReplyDeleteThanks for teaching me a new technique! Your cards are stunning! I have never used a sheen product like that either, so something else to try! Thanks for the opportunity to win a Misti!
ReplyDeleteI treasure my BFF's that I've known for a very long time --- since 7th grade!
ReplyDeleteAn amazingly beautiful card Suzy and a great tutorial.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend and I lived next door to each other and played EVERY day together. We truly were your typical "giggly girls". We loved to swing together and did so often. One day as we were swinging away, we got to giggling, so much so we fell off. As a result, I laughed SO hard I peed my pants and had to go home to change. On the way, we got laughing so hard about THAT I fell into the ditch and accidentally peed myself again! We STILL laugh about it and that was 50 years ago! (Incidentally, we married 1st cousins and STILL live next door to one another, just in a different community.) LOL
Beautiful card. I married my best friend. :-) We've been together almost 20 years, and we still have just as much fun as we did when we met.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial. Best memories with my BFF are going to our boys football games. Their HS allowed tailgating so we'd get our tent and chairs out and support out guys.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! This is the first time I've seen a mirror image ... thanks for the tutorial. My BFF is my Mom and since she'll be 82 in a few weeks, every day we get to see each other is a special memory for me. I have learned to cherish every moment. :-)

ReplyDeleteThievery is lovely. Simple, eloquent and starting that we are never ready.
ReplyDeletekinda wondering if after the give away how many of us will be purchasing one of these amazing tools!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the mirror stamp. I saw it yesterday on your site. I was ordering Flower Flourish. I wanted to see how the mirror stamp worked...then I saw a video by Justine Hovey and now this post.
ReplyDeleteMy friend and I have car issues when we are together. I broke down, she jump started me but then we both broke down and had the be towed. Once, she was getting gas and we drove away with the gas pump still attached to the car! Another time, I bumped into the back of her. It has become our thing...
Thie is a really beautiful card! I never tried the mirror image technique, but now I need to! I love to win a MISTI. Seems to be a great tool.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that for most of my 20's I was mad with my best friend. I thought she made a lot of mistakes in how she raised her kids. As I got older and had some of my own I began to understand how circumstances thrown at you in life can alter you in many ways. I have forgiven her and she never stopped loving me, because not only is she my best friend, she just happens to be my mother.
ReplyDeleteMy happiest memory of my best friend is when we made up after a nasty fight that resulted in us not talking to each other for over a year. I think that's what true friendship is about—a friendship that endures time, spats, fallouts, and disagreements, when we stick by each other no matter what and are always there for each other, even if we don't speak every single day.
ReplyDeleteAwesome technique.. Love your project, especially the colors. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHow thoughtful. I met my best friend as an adult. We were both first time moms and met at church. Our kids grew up together like siblings. We're still very close.

ReplyDeleteNow I understand your Mirror stamp I saw on So Suzy! Thanks to you and Justine for informative videos today! Your card about loss of a friend is lovely. My best friend for 48 years, Denise, and I have done lots together! Friends in high school, in each other's weddings, both teachers, both moms, now both grandmothers. We've done crafts together, but it's more my thing, which she admires and supports. I admire her work with teens, she admires mine with elementary kids. A few years ago we took a long trip, our first together, to attend a country fair in Ohio and had a great time. We are members of the same church denomination, though we live 25 miles apart. I can't imagine life without her, my BFF and ever! Thanks for giving away these Mini MISTIs. I do hope I may win one.

ReplyDeleteGreat video and love the cards you make. I remember my childhood BF introducting me at her son's wedding as her 'oldest' friend, and then correcting herself to say 'longest' friend! Everyone laughed. Thanks for the chance to win a Mini!
ReplyDeleteLovely cards!! Great 'mirror image' technique....I really need a MISTI so I can try this out. One of my favorite memories of my BFF was how we met in HS. She has a locker a couple places over from mine and one day, I came from one of my classes and all of her books and things from her locker were all over the ground in front of my locker. She had her locker open and was spraying cockroach spray all over inside of it. She looked at me and said that there was a cockroach in her locker and asked if I wanted her to spray out my locker, too.....lol. We have been BFFs ever since. Thanks for sharing with us today and for the chance to win a Mini MISTI!!
ReplyDeleteGreat work! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely card. My BBF was my husband for 37 years (highschool sweethearts). There are so many good memories: I chose one that still makes me laugh. We were living up in the mountains, and it was really cold. All we had for heat was a little 1800's wood stove. When the fire went out at night, we cuddled. One night I got into bed with my knee-hi's on. He said, "Oh, Honey, you need to shave you legs!!! I laughed til I cried.

Mirror image has always scared me but this makes it look so easy. I also really like the use of two sides of grief and loss. We all get touched by it one point or another. I would love to win a mini!

ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial on using the mirror image stamp. How many of us are a mirror image of a BFF, at least in one aspect of the relationship, and sometimes many. At least that's true for my BFF and me. Thanks for another opportunity to have my name entered to win a mini MISTI!
